Route 66 - February 21, 2019

Tonight's look back 25 years to 1994 features Pearl Jam's classic album "Vitalogy" released on November 22, 1994. This was the band's third album, from the band's first four years, recorded at their creative and commercial peak.

Despite a few "throw away" songs, "Vitalogy" contains several of their all time most popular hits that are still played today including "Not For You" and "Better Man."

The album was actually first released on vinyl, with the more popular (at that time) CD format released two weeks later. Here now are the first two songs from Pearl Jam's "Vitalogy:" "Last Exit" and "Spin the Black Circle" - which is about playing records, right?

Continuing our celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, it's time to play one of the most famous bands of the entire festival. This is a group that remains a household name, 50 years later. . . despite the fact that very few people can probably name one of their songs. Of course I am speaking of The Grateful Dead.

In many ways they are the quintessential band of the 1960s, continuing their signature San Francisco style of peace, love & drugs well into subsequent decades. They basically were on tour for thirty straight years, performing legendary jams and influencing the next generation. They kept touring right up until the death of their lead singer Jerry Garcia in August of 1995.

The Grateful Dead played the second night of Woodstock, Saturday, August 16th 1969. We're closing out tonight's show with some their all-time classics.
