A dark room can be lit by just one candle. Light is that powerful as it pushes away darkness. Today churches all over the world will light the candle of hope from last week, as well as the Bethlehem Candle or candle of love. These candles remind us of the hope that Jesus brings as well as the love that God shows for us through Jesus. The Bethlehem candle reminds us of the waiting that Mary and Joseph did as they prepared for the arrival of Jesus. Advent is a time of preparation, when we wait and prepare for the birth of the Christ child at Christmas and the return of Christ at the Second Coming. Love is the focus of this second Sunday of Advent.
