Evening Eclectic April 4, 2021 Commemoration of Easter

Tonight on Evening Eclectic we are commemorating Easter Sunday with music from two sources.  First is Dieterich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri (1680), which explores the crucifixion of Christ by exploring the injury to each body part in 7 cantatas.  And second is my selection of the some of the responses to Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri commissioned in 2015 by the vocal ensemble The Crossing from their 2017 album  “Seven Responses”.  I have selected from the responses because this material in it’s entirety would have been two shows.   And by the way, I am talking with Donald Nally, founder and artistic director of The Crossing  about two new releases from The Crossing on this Tuesday’s Contemporary Classics here on WRUU.
