  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today’s theme, Foreign Lands, was suggested by a local fan and I needed to find a good time slot for it. The theme of Foreign Lands is about shows set in foreign countries. With only one hour, we can’t hit every region on Earth so we will save those for another day.

  • We are going to start off in Africa with the “Circle of Life” from the Broadway production of The Lion King. It’s an amazing opening as the human/animal puppets assemble to meet the new lion cub. We will then hear Glenn Close and Phil Collins sing “You’ll Be In My Heart” from the soundtrack of Disney’s Tarzan. Next, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope will be off on the “Road to Morocco” from the movie of the same name. And we will finish this set with “Written In The Stars” from Elton John and Tim Rice’s Broadway production of Aida which is based on Verdi’s opera about Aida, an enslaved Ethiopian princess. Here’s “Circle of Life” from The Lion King.

  • We are traveling to Foreign Lands today on “well, That’s Show Biz!” and we started off in Africa with “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, “You’ll Be In My Heart” from Tarzan, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope singing “Road to Morocco” from the movie of the same name, and “Written In The Stars” from Aida.

  • We are listening to shows based in foreign lands today on “well, That’s Show Biz!” and for our second set, we are leaving Africa for the Middle East. First up is the original Broadway cast of Aladdin with “Arabian Nights”. Then, Richard Kiley and Doretta Morrow sing about being a “Stranger in Paradise” from Kismet. And finally we will hear about the land of “Milk And Honey” with its title song.  Here’s “Arabian Nights” from Aladdin.

  • You are listening to “well, That’s Show Biz!” on [station ID]. Our theme today is shows based in Foreign Lands. We’ve been to Africa and the Middle East and now for the third set we go to the Far East starting with Yul Brynner and Marni Nixon, dubbing for Deborah Kerr, in the movie version of The King and I singing “Shall We Dance?”. Then we are going to hear “Three Little Maids from ASchool Are We” from the classic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Mikado. And we will conclude this set with “One Night In Bangkok” from Chess In Concert Live.  Here’s “Shall We Dance?” from The King and I.

  • We’ve been to Africa, The Middle and Far Easts, and we are going to conclude today’s trip to Foreign Lands with a trip to Europe. Starting in Spain with Man Of La Mancha, we are going to hear Joan Deiner sing “Aldonza” as she tries to convince Don Quixote that she is not the virginal Ducinea that he imagines her to be. Then we are going to go north to England where Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins has taught Eliza Doolittle, played by Julie Andrews, how to properly pronounce “The Rain in Spain” from My Fair Lady. Then to Scotland for “The Heather on the Hill” from Brigadoon. And finally, to Sweden where we will hear about “A Weekend in the Country”, the first act ending number from A Little Night Music as all of the players are about to converge in Act 2.  Here’s “Aldonza” from Man Of La Mancha.
