  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • February is Body Positivity Awareness Month so our theme today is THE BODY, show biz songs that include various body parts. We are going to start off our anatomy lesson with the lower extremities, specifically, the feet. In 1926, George and Ira Gershwin wrote the musical Oh, Kay! It’s most famous song was “Someone to Watch Over Me”. But it also provided the popular song “Fidgety Feet”. We will follow that with the not so body positive song from Ain’t Misbehavin’, Fats Waller’s “Your Feet’s Too Big”. Then from The Most Happy Fella, the waitresses lament, “Ooh! My Feet!”. And finally in this set, A Day In Hollywood, the first act of A Day In Hollywood/ A Night In The Ukraine, has a delightful song about the footprints in the cement in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles called “Famous Feet”. Here’s “Fidgety Feet” from The Gershwin’s Oh, Kay.

  • You just heard songs about FEET, “Fidgety Feet” from Oh, Kay!, “Your Feets Too Big” from Ain’t Misbehavin’, “Ooh ! My Feet!” from The Most Happy Fella, and “Famous Feet” from A Day In Hollywood/ A Night In The Ukraine.

  • February is Body Positivity Awareness Month so this week’s theme on “well, That’s Show Biz!” is THE BODY. The fist set was about the lower extremities, so set 2 will be about the upper extremities, the ARMS and Hands. We are going to start with the song that introduces us to the not so virginal Aldonza from Man Of La Mancha. In the song “It’s All the Same”, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio from the 2002 revival, sings that “one pair of arms is just like another”. From there, we are going to hear Bernadette Peters sing “I Got Lost In His Arms” from Annie Get Your Gun. Then we get introduced to Carol Channing as Dolly Levi with “I Put My Hand In” from Hello, Dolly! And finally the original Tony and Maria, Larry Kert and Carol Lawrence, will sing “One Hand, One Heart” from West Side Story which will lead us into the third set.  Here’s “It’s All The Same” from Man Of La Mancha.

  • You are listening to “well, That’s Show Biz!” on [station ID]. February is Body Positivity Awareness Month so we are listening to songs that mention parts of the body. Our last song “One Hand, One Heart” leads us from the extremities to some of our internal organs. We are going to start with the song “Heart” from the original broadway production of Damn Yankees. Then Elaine Paige will sing “Heaven Help My Heart” from Chess, lyrics by Tim Rice and music by the two gentlemen from ABBA. And finally, “The Brain” from the Broadway production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein. Here’s “Heart”.

  • February is Body Positive Awareness Month and for our finally set we are going to start off with the song “Positive” from Legally Blonde. Next, Cole Porter wrote a controversial musical called Nymph Errant that had its London premiere in 1933 but its US debut in 1982. It was the story about an English woman trying to lose her virginity. Porter considered it his best score. It produced a clever song called “The Physician”, the lyrics mentioning many internal body parts. Harvard math professor and satirical songwriter, Tom Lehrer wrote a clever song of a different type mentioning various body parts called “The Masochism Tango”. And finally, we are going to celebrate the body as a whole with “I Sing The Body Electric” from the movie Fame.  For Body Positivity Awareness Month, here’s “Positive” from Legally Blonde.
