  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • May is National Pet Month in the United States. This can be a bit confusing as April is Pet Month in some other countries. So for National Pet Month, our theme today is going to be Animals. There are lots of shows that feature animals or have songs about animals. The most famous being a show all about cats and, during this hour, we will feature a few songs from Cats. We will open the first set with the opening song from Cats, “Jellicle Songs For Jellicle Cats”. The musical Cats is based on T.S. Eliot’s poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and tells the story of a group of cats  who have to choose which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Then we are going to hear the song “Snoopy” from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Next, in the song “Green Finch and Linnet Bird” from Sweeney Todd, Johanna sings about how her life is like birds in a bird cage. And finally, we will hear “Les Poissons”, the fish, from Disney’s movie, The Little Mermaid. Here’s “Jellicle Songs For Jellicle Cats” as we honor National Pet Month.
