  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Tonight is Christmas Eve so obviously today’s show is about Christmas. We are going to open with a pre-Christmas song from the Jerry Herman musical, Mame. After losing everything during the stock market crash of 1929, Mame Dennis, played by Angela Lansbury deems that “We Need a Little Christmas”. Then we are going to hear the Ghost of Christmas Present singing “It Feels Like Christmas” from The Muppet Christmas Carol. Next, Ralphie sings about his perfect Christmas gift, a “Red Ryder Carbine Action BB Gun” from A Christmas Story: The Musical. Then we will hear “Christmas Is My Favorite Time Of The Year” from Catch Me If You Can. And we will close out this set as we began it, right after the stock market crash, with the cast of Annie wishing for “A New Deal for Christmas”. Here’s Mame, “We Need a Little Christmas”.

  • Some of our favorite Christmas songs have either come from Broadway Shows or written by Broadway composers. Broadway composer Meredith Wilson did both. He wrote the popular Christmas song, “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” and incorporated it into the song “Pine Cones and Holly Berries” from his musical based on the movie Miracle On 34th Street called Here’s Love. Then, the song “Be A Santa” comes from the Broadway musical Subways Are For Sleeping and written by Jule Styne and lyricists Comden and Green. I couldn’t find the cast album so I have a recording by The McGuire Sisters. Next, Broadway composer Frank Loesser wrote the song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” for he and his wife to sing together at winter parties. This version is by Idina Menzel and Michael Buble. Then Dean Martin will regale us with another Christmas tune written by Jule Styne, “Let It Snow!”. And finally in this set, my musical partner, Danny Adlerman, wrote a winter holiday song, “Two Sets of Footprints”, that hopefully will become a standard one day. I was supposed to be in the video but family health issues prevented it. Here’s “Pine Cones and Holly Berries” from Here’s Love.

  • You just heard “Pine Cones and Holly Berries” from Here’s Love, The McGuire Sisters singing “Be a Santa” originally from the musical Subways Are For Sleeping, Idina Menzel and Michael Buble singing Frank Loesser’s “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, Dean Martin singing Jule Styne’s Let It Snow!, and Danny Adlerman’s “Two Sets of Footprints” hopefully soon to be a Christmas standard as we celebrate Christmas today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

Next, Judy Garland will sing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from Meet Me in St. Louis. Then, from my favorite Christmas TV show, the Vince Guaraldi Trio plays the wistful “Christmas Time Is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas, And we will close out with an Irving Berlin song that was sung by Bing Crosby in two movies. First,  Holiday Inn and then as the title song to White Christmas. Here’s the cast of Promises, Promises with “Turkey Lurkey Time”.
