January 2, 2024: How Did We Get Here?
We started our new year of Voices of Reason at a new time (11am) by asking "what is time?" Our new two-hour show breaks for Finding Happiness, which so often feeds into our VoR discussions. Why is the transition from 12/31 to 1/1 so significant? It has no relevance to planetary or universal markers, such as solstices, equinoxes, and moon phases; it is just one day going into another.
Perhaps the more significant questions we asked were, "How did we get here?" Followed by, "Can we contemplate a world we could have created rather than the one we woke to on 1/1/24?" Instead of waking to a world of endless ecocide, war, militarism, and competition, could we have woken to a world of cooperation, harmony, healing, kindness, peace, making decisions based upon the Golden Rule? Could it be that our species evolved massive brains, but have not learned how to use them, an ideal taken from Caitlin Johnstone? Listen to this VoR show for our reasoned discussion of this postulate and add your comments at our FB page, Voices of Reason Savannah - WRUU.
We ended the show discussing a list of "best advice received" from the NY Times. Some of our favorites included:
- We are all juggling so many balls. Differentiate between glass balls and rubber balls and don't be afraid to drop the rubber balls.
- Instead of calling someone out, call them in. Invite them into a judgment-free conversation with the intention of promoting understanding.
- Feel what your body is saying and stop trying to think your way through your feelings.
- Retire from you job, not from life.
- Be a fountain, not a drain.
Do you have any to add?
