Contemporary Classics January 30, 2023 Jessie Montgomery

Tonight on Contemporary Classics I am talking with composer and violinist Jessie Montgomery.  You have heard her music here on contemporary classics in my recent conversations with Lara St. John about Jessie’s work “Rhapsody #2”, with Awadagin Pratt about her work “Rounds” and with Tommy Mesa about her work “Divided”.  In addition her Rounds has been nominated for  the 2024 Grammy Award in the category of “Best Contemporary Classical Composition”.  And her music will be performed three times here in the low country with the Sunday, February 4th at 4pm and Monday February 5th at 7:30 pm performances of Jessie’s “Strum” by the Hilton Head Symphony at the First Presbyterian Church 540 William Hilton Parkway on Hilton Head Island and on  Saturday, February 10th her work “Soul Force” will be performed by the Savannah Philharmonic at 7:30 pm at the Lucas Theater for the Arts on Abercorn Street here in Savannah.
