Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.
Tuesday night is New Year’s Eve, which ushers in the year 2025, so today we are going to start the festivities early with our annual New Year’s Party. We are going to play a few New Year’s songs from Broadway as well as songs to get your “party on”.
We are going to start things off with Bing Crosby singing “Let’s Start The New Year Right” from the movie Holiday Inn. Then Angela Lansbury gets the party started with “It’s Today” from Mame. We will follow that with “I’m Alive” from Next To Normal. And we will end the first set with “Shut up and Raise Your Glass” from the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. Here’s Bing as we start our New Year’s Party.
We got our New Year’s Party started with Bing Crosby singing “Let’s Start The New Year Right” from the movie Holiday Inn. Then you heard “It’s Today” from Mame, “I’m Alive” from Next To Normal, “Shut up and Raise Your Glass” from Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
Composer Frank Loesser wrote the classic song “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” in 1947. We are going to hear Harry Connick Jr. cover this classic New Year’s tune. Then we will hear Billy Porter and the cast of Kinky Boots sing “Everybody Say Yeah”. We will follow that with the ladies from the movie version of Dreamgirls bringing us “One Night Only”. And we will close the set out with Leslie Odom Jr. and “Go Crazy”. Here’s Harry Connick Jr.

We are approaching the New Year, 2025, so we are prepping today with New Year’s songs and songs to hype you up.
First up in this set we have Glenn Close singing “The Perfect Year” from Sunset Boulevard. The way this song was recorded, it is followed by some dialog. We will follow that with “We Beseech Thee” from the 2001 touring cast of Godspell. Then, my musical partner, Danny Adlerman, wrote and recorded a beautiful winter holiday song called “Two Sets Of Footprints”. You can find it on his CD. ...And A Happy New Year. And we will end with “Raise the Roof” from the Off-Broadway show The Wild Party. Here’s “The Perfect Year” from Sunset Boulevard.
We are listening to New Year’s and Broadway party songs today and you just heard “The Perfect Year” from Sunset Boulevard, “We Beseech Thee” from Godspell, Danny Adlerman’s winter holiday song “Two Sets Of Footprints”, and “Raise the Roof” from the Off-Broadway production of The Wild Party. I emphasize the term Off-Broadway because there was a completely different Broadway show with the same name at around the same time.
And now for our concluding set. Twenty five years ago, we crossed a time threshold and entered a new millennium with the 21st century. Hard to believe it’s been 25 years already. I was at a New Millennium's Eve party and provided the music and I will recreate the two songs that I played that straddled the 20th and 21st centuries. At the right time just before midnight, I ended the 20th century with “1999” by Prince & The Revolution. And right after midnight I played “I Want That Man” by Debbie Harry that contains the line “Here comes the 21st century”. Enjoy my memory lane.
You just heard “1999” by Prince and “I Want That Man” by Blondie’s Deborah Harry that I played at midnight 25 years ago as we transitioned from the 20th to the 21st century.
