  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today’s show was pre-recorded.

  • Today’s show is all about the movies. We will be playing songs that were featured in movies.  And each set will start off with a fanfare from one of the major movie studios.

  • We are going to start off with the title song from The Beatles’ 1964 musical comedy, A Hard Day’s Night. We will follow that with Bette Midler singing “Wind Beneath My Wings” from the 1988 film Beaches. Then we will hear Maureen McGovern singing “The Morning After” from the 1972 film The Poseidon Adventure. And we will close this first set with Pharrell Williams singing “Happy” from 2013s animated film Despicable Me 2. Here’s the Universal Studio’s Fanfare.

  • Our theme today is Movie Music, songs featured in movies with a movie studio fanfare to open each set.

  • This third set is dedicated to the 1967 Columbia Pictures James Bond spy parody film Casino Royale which starred David Niven as the original James Bond and 6 other agents pretending to be the real James Bond. The music was by Burt Bacharach who received an academy award nomination for the song “The Look of Love” which was performed by Dusty Springfield. We are going to hear the title song, “Casino Royale”, “The Look of Love”, and “Bond Street”. Here’s the Columbia Pictures Fanfare followed by the music from 1967s Casino Royale.

  • And now for our concluding set of movie songs, we are going to start with Bette Midler singing “Friends” which was featured at the end of the 1973 mystery film The Last of Shiela. The movie was written by Anthony Perkins and Stephen Sondheim and based on real-life scavenger hunts that the pair would create for friends. We will then hear Matt Monro sing the title song to the 1966 film Born Free about the orphaned lion cub Elsa. After that we will hear Barbra Streisand sing “Places That Belong To You” which was supposed to be in her 1991 film The Prince of Tides. The melody is the love theme to the movie and the song can be found on the soundtrack album. And we will close with Adele singing the title song to the 2012 James Bond movie Skyfall. Here’s the Warner Brothers’ Fanfare.

  • You just heard “Friends” from The Last of Shiela, the title song from Born Free, “Places That Belong To You” based on the love theme from The Prince of Tides, and the title song from Skyfall as we conclude our show of songs featured on movies.
