And “June IS Bustin’ Out All Over” and you just heard Bing Crosby covering that song originally from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, Carousel, their favorite. Today is our 4th Rodgers and Hammerstein Celebration, celebrating the two men that changed musical theater. They integrated music and dance with the plot that moved the story forward. Today’s show will highlight these two men by playing covers of some of their most famous songs.
Our first set highlights Richard Rodgers and his collaborations with Moss Hart before he joined up with Oscar Hammerstein.
We are going to open with The Marcels and their do wop cover of Blue Moon. Then we will hear Natalie Cole cover “This Can’t Be Love” originally from The Boys From Syracuse. We will follow that with two songs originally from Babes In Arms. First is Etta James’ haunting rendition of “My Funny Valentine” followed by Lena Horne’s high energy version of “The Lady Is a Tramp”. Here’s The Marcels with Blue Moon.
