April 1, 2025: Tom Foolery of the Best Kind
What an incredible Voices of Reason on April Fool's Day. We--Two, Socks, Barbara--brought our tom foolery to the show, beginning with a few versions of its history, the most likely being the move from the Jilian to the Gregorian calendar and the new year's start on 1/1, not 4/1.
We focused the show on a more serious side of tom foolery--how effective it is in all its forms (visual, performing arts, trickery, song, dance, mockery, etc.) to reach people, to disrupt, such as letting cockroaches loose at a police officer recruiting event, singing pro-BDS songs at the display of an item made in the occupied Palestinian territories, We suggested creating a Resistance Choir, similar to the Raging Grannies, a group of women who don granny-style clothes and sing anti-war songs and engaging in collective clownery where and when appropriate as alternative acts of resistance.
We also talked about mutual aid, not charity, as an effective form of resistance, where people give what they no longer use and take what they need, a not so foolish way to stand up to capitalism.
The following is a list of recurring mutual aid events in Savannah:
Food Not Bombs: Wednesday and Sunday, 7-9 pm, Wells Park, Montgomery & 39th Street
Really Free Market: donate and take items, second Saturday, 11-4, Daffin Park at Waters/Washington entrance
DSA Food/item share: Saturdays, Waters & 37th Street
Your Space on Bay, 2022 W Bay Street: second Sunday clothing swap and third Saturday and Sunday, skills share
And to all on this day of foolery and every day: share air together.
