Geography Awareness Week

“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

11-09-2025

  • You are listening to [Station ID].

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today’s show was pre-recorded.

  • Every time someone asks me, “Where you going?”, I invariably answer, “Barcelona”. This is usually followed by the sound of crickets. Very few people get the reference. Well, here it is.

  • <Play “Barcelona”>

  • You just heard the song “Barcelona” from Stephen Sondheim’s Company which starts off our celebration of Geography Awareness Week. Today we are playing songs that have place names in their titles.

  • We started off in Europe, Barcelona, Spain to be exact and we are going to move north into France with the song “It’s Nicer In Nice” from The Boy Friend. (This song also references other places.) Then we will continue north with composer Cole Porter singing his song “I Love Paris” originally from Can-Can. We will remain in Paris where Robert Preston describes “Gay Paree” from the film Victor / Victoria. Afterwards we continue north to hear about the region of “Normandy” from Once Upon a Mattress. And we will conclude this five song set by crossing the Channel to hear Angela Lansbury tell us about “The Worst Pies in London” from Sweeney Todd. Here’s “It’s Nicer In Nice” from The Boy Friend.

  • Today starts Geography Awareness Week and we started off in Western Europe with “It’s Nicer In Nice” from The Boy Friend, Cole Porter singing his song “I Love Paris”, “Gay Paree” from the film Victor / Victoria, “Normandy” from Once Upon a Mattress, and “The Worst Pies in London” from Sweeney Todd.
