Today’s show was pre-recorded.
<Play “The Chanukah Song”>
Tonight begins the first night of Chanukah and we started off our Chanukah celebration with Adam Sandler performing his first version of “The Chanukah Song”.
There are a lot of traditions that go with Chanukah and although the song “Tradition” from Fiddler on the Roof has nothing to do with Chanukah, it explains what tradition means to Judaism. We will follow that with Idina Menzel singing the song “Ocho Kandelikas” which means eight candles, one for each night of Chanukah. Although it will sound Spanish it is actually in the language called Ladino which is the language spoken by the Saphardic Jews of Spain and Portugal. Here is Zero Mostel to tell us about “Tradition”.
Chanukah begins tonight at sundown and you just heard “Tradition” from Fiddler on the Roof and Idina Menzel singing the Ladino song, “Ocho Kandelikas”.

Tonight is the first night of Chanukah so we are celebrating by songs related to the holiday. We are going to open this set with Peter, Paul, and Mary performing Peter Yarrow’s song “Light One Candle”, a song about freedom and the responsibility that goes with that freedom. Then we will hear “The Chanukah Party” from the musical Caroline, or Change. Caroline is a maid that works for a Jewish family in Louisiana in 1963. And we will close this set with the title song from Jerry Herman’s musical Milk and Honey, a show about a busload of tourists during the early days of the State of Israel. Here’s “Light One Candle”.
