We open this second hour of Four Centuries of Great Music
featuring recent releases of music for the cello with cello music by Henriëtte Bosmans. I have played quite a bit of her cello music because this Fall there have been two separate releases in September and November of albums of her cello music. As a result, I have played her first and second cello concertos so today I will play her Poème for Violoncello and Orchestra . Written in 1922-23 Bosmans’ Poème it is dedicated to Marix Loevensohn, principal cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, who gave its first performance on January 13, 1927 with the Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Pierre Monteux.
Here is a performance of Henriëtte Bosmans' Poème for Violoncello and Orchestra by Raphael Wallfisch, cello and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ed Spanjaard
