“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

1-11-2026

  • You are listening to [Station ID].

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Today’s show was pre-recorded.

  • This week’s theme was given to me by a listener.

  • <Play “The Rumble”>

  • You just heard “The Rumble” scene from the original 1957 Broadway cast recording of West Side Story which highlights today’s theme of Conflict. It is conflict that drives the plot whether the conflict is external or internal.

  • Starting off our first set about Conflict we have “Sit Down, John”, the opening number from 1776. The song sets up the conflict between members of the Continental Congress and its most outspoken member, John Adams. Then we have the “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago. And we will conclude this set with the “Confrontation” between Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert from Les Miserables. Here’s “Sit Down, John” from 1776.

  • Conflict is our theme today and for our second set we start off with Madeline Kahn singing “Never” from On the Twentieth Century as Oscar Jaffe’s lieutenants try to get his muse, Lily Garland, to do his newest play. Then, Nathan Detroit tells Adelaide to “Sue Me” from Guys & Dolls. We will follow that with “Aldonza” and Don Quixote’s confrontation with “The Knight of the Mirrors” from Man of La Mancha. And we will end the set with “Run Run Brother” from The Outsiders. Here’s “Never” from On the Twentieth Century.

  • You just heard “Never” from On the Twentieth Century, “Sue Me” from Guys & Dolls, “Aldonza” and “The Knight of the Mirrors” from Man of La Mancha, and “Run Run Brother” from The Outsiders as we listen to songs from the fan inspired theme of Conflict today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

  • Starting off this set we have Bernadette Peters and Tom Wopat duelling over “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun. Then Julie Andrews demands “Show Me” from My Fair Lady. We will follow that with “Why We Build the Wall” from Hadestown. And we will end with “Your Fault / Last Midnight” from Into the Woods. Here’s “Anything You Can Do” from Annie Get Your Gun.

  • For our next set of Conflict songs, we have “Brooklyn’s Here” from Newsies as the newsboys hope that their strike will be joined by the newsboys from Brooklyn. That will be followed by Len Cariou and Glynis Johns singing “You Must Meet My Wife” from A Little Night Music. But don’t disappear because we will have one final ultimate Conflict song after this set. Here’s “Brooklyn’s Here” from Newsies.

  • You just heard “Brooklyn’s Here” from Newsies and “You Must Meet My Wife” from A Little Night Music.

  • Before we end with our last Conflict song, I want to thank this listener for providing our theme for today. If you would like to provide a theme for me to create a show around, send your theme and song suggestions to me at wruushowbiz@gmail.com.

  • And now for our final Conflict song we have the fatal duel between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Here is “The World Was Wide Enough” from Hamilton.

  • You just heard “The World Was Wide Enough” from Hamilton which concludes today’s fan inspired theme of Conflict.
