December 30, 2025--The 6 Rs of Change

Co-hosts Opollo, Margie and Barbara followed up our conversations of December 9 and 16, what would you do as president for 24 hours, with ideas for how we implement those suggestions.  But first, we saluted the Cuban revolution that gave control of that country to the people from the control of USA on 12/31/58 under the leadership of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara.  After an initial unsuccessful attempt to incite revolt on July 26 and a re-education of the Cuban people using Fidel's History Will Absolve Me defense of his attempted revolt, Fidel was elected president on 1/1/59 and, despite a USA blockade, sanctions, and numerous attempts to assassinate Fidel, the Cuban revolution lives on and is celebrated annually on vente-seis de julio.  Viva Cuba.

Opollo, Margie and Barbara discussed their various activities and organizational affiliations that promote change in the USA to re-educate; provide the basic rights of housing, food, education and healthcare; reform and/or abolish the prison system; abolish ICE and offer undocumented residents pathways to citizenship; establish a system of direct democracy; and replace capitalism with socialism as our economic system.

Opollo discussed organizations of Harambee House, Democratic Socialists of America, the IW Cheever Foundation and the Epiphany Food Pantry.  These organizations engage in re-education, assistance registering people to vote, and rage against the inequities of USA society by provision of mutual aid and rallies.  Margie is involved with the GIPL, Georgia Interfaith Power and Light, to educate and take direction to protect our local environment, the Forsyth Farmers Market to provide education and assistance to people in need, and Neighbors Helping Neighbors to provide assistance obtaining needed food.  Barbara talked about Veterans for Peace's efforts to educate, rage against, and resist war; Migrant Equity SE to education and provide mutual support for families who have lost members to detainment and deportation; Yamacraw Tenants Council to support the preservation of public, affordable housing for current and former tenants; and Your Space Collective to educate on the rights and plight of Palestinians and use BDS to resist Israel.  And here we all are, volunteers on Voices of Resistance, to use this platform to re-educate, rage and resist.

Together, with the support of our guests and listeners, we can make a difference.

As we close 2025, we thanked our hosts, guests, listeners, and supporters of WRUU.  There is more to come in 2026 as the USA celebrates 250 years of war, genocide, ethnic cleansing, homelessness, death by lack of affordable healthcare, mis-education and so much more.  Stay tuned.
