Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.
Today’s show was pre-recorded.

Today begins National Hero Week and you just heard “Be The Hero” from Big Fish. I’ve done Villains as a theme but this is the first time that I’ve done Heroes. These songs don’t necessarily have to do with the protagonists of a plot but mainly heroes in general.
Opening our first set we have “Holding Out For a Hero!” from Footloose: The Musical. We will follow that with Lee Remick singing “There Won’t Be Trumpets” from Anyone Can Whistle. And we will close the set with Brian Stokes Mitchell and Ernie Sabella introducing us to Knight Errant Don Quixote and his sidekick Sancho Panza from Man of La Mancha. Here’s “Holding Out For a Hero!”.
We are celebrating the start of National Hero Week and you just heard “Holding Out For a Hero!” from Footloose: The Musical, “There Won’t Be Trumpets” from Anyone Can Whistle, and the title song from Man of La Mancha.

Today is the start of National Hero Week and to celebrate I thought you might like a bit of nostalgia. From my childhood, here are some of the TV themes I grew up with.
You just heard the TV themes to some of the heroes from my youth, Underdog, Astro Boy, Speed Racer, The Green Hornet, Batman, Mighty Mouse, Wonder Woman, and Spiderman.
We are playing songs about heroes for National Hero Week today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

Today is the first day of National Hero Week and to celebrate we are playing songs about Heroes.
To open our next set, we have Josh Gad and company singing “Man Up” from The Book of Mormon. We will follow that with “Hero is My Middle Name” from SpongeBob SquarePants, The New Musical. The score to this show had contributions from several rock legends such as David Bowie, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. This song was written by Cyndi Lauper. After that, we will hear “Who I’d Be” from Shrek: The Musical. And we will close the set with “Go the Distance” from the Disney animated film, Hercules. Here’s Josh Gad and “Man Up”.

Perhaps our most iconic hero is Superman and in 1966, Charles Strouse and Lee Adams created the musical It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman. The critics liked the show but audiences didn’t show up. One song from the show, however, became very popular. The song was “You’ve Got Possibilities” and was sung by Linda Lavin playing a Daily Planet secretary who was attracted to reporter Clark Kent. We will follow that with the song “Save The City”, the finale to the Disney television show Hawkeye. All through the show, we were teased with segments of this song from the fictional musical called Rodgers about Steve Rodgers, Captain America and the Avengers. In gratitude for watching the series, at the end, Marvel gave us the entire number. We have one more song for you after these two. Here is “You’ve Got Possibilities” from It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman.
You just heard “You’ve Got Possibilities” from It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman, and “Save The City”, the finale to the Disney television show Hawkeye.
We couldn’t conclude today’s show without playing this iconic song composed by John Williams with lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and spoken by Margot Kidder in the movie. The cut from the movie was much too long to play here so here is Maureen McGovern singing “Can You Read My Mind”, the Love Theme from Superman: The Movie.
You just heard Maureen McGovern’s cover of “Can You Read My Mind”, the Love Theme from Superman: The Movie as we conclude today’s show for the start of National Hero Week.
