Tonight on Savannah Music Local and Sustainable I am talking with John Morris Russell conductor and music director of the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.  The  Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra with John Morris Russell conducting presents ELLIS ISLAND – THE DREAM OF AMERICA on SUNDAY, February 22nd at 4:00 PM and MONDAY, February 23rd 7:30 PM.  Both performances are at the First Presbyterian Church 540 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head. The concert begins with Charles ives “Variation on America” orchestrated by William Schumann followed by a series of works by composers who emigrated to America.   The concert ends with “Ellis Island,” which dramatically blends first-person accounts, period images, and a deeply emotional score.
