March 24, 2026: Sheroes of the Resistance
Voices of Resistance saluted unsung sheroes of resistance on today's show:
- Emma Booker, early Florida educator of black children despite FL black codes, site of GWB presence on morning of 9/11/01
- Fannie Lou Hamer, given a Mississippi Appendectomy (forced sterilization) when hospitalized after an injury during a civil rights protest, whose activism led to passage of Voting Rights Act
- Gloria Richardson, a leader of the Cambridge Movement, whose militant stance put her at odds with civil rights leaders of the time, including MLK. Thank you, RJ Reynolds Band for your song, Cambridge Town, a portion of which we played on air
- Celia Flores, attorney and wife of former Venezuela president, represented Hugo Chavez when he was imprisoned for his 1992 coup, played an influential role in Maduro's administration, who called her his "first combatant"
- Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexican president since 2024, has stood up to pressure from the USA regarding support to Cuba, and is providing leadership on MX environmental, public transit, & healthcare issues and Latin American organizations
- Syracuse/Ithaca warrior women Ann Tiffany, Nancy Gwin, Liz McAllister, Grady Sisters, et al for actions "stepping over the line" at military bases, such as Kings Bay & Ft. Benning to protest the School of the Americas; and protest of weaponized drones; accepted federal imprisonment for actions
- Savannah warrior women Yamacraw Residence Council members, Leila Abdullah/Your Space, and Daniela Rodriguez/Migrant Equity South East for their actions in support of Palestinian rights and undocumented migrants in the USA.
Thank you to those and other warrior women on whose shoulders we stand today.
