May 12, 2026: Yamacraw Village rerun
Due to other obligations, we re-aired our 3/31/26 episode on Yamacraw and the last remnant of the historically black neighborhood that was first settled by former enslaved persons prior to the Civil War and grew into Frogtown, a thriving residential, business and entertainment center. But a racialized USA could not let Frogtown live, It was first taken out to build public housing in 1940, Yamacraw Village, a segregated public housing project to enable people to live affordably and get to their service jobs in downtown Savannah and, via train and bus) elsewhere. The remnants of Frogtown were taken out to build I16, but Yamacraw Village remains as a shell of its former self due to neglect of its capital and security needs by the Housing Authority of Savannah. Now, the HAS wants to remove that last remnant to further erase the history of West Savannah. It is worth a first, or even second listening as the fight goes on to save Yamacraw Village.
