Yesterday was the 4th of July, and you just heard “The Egg” from 1776, a song about the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson, and the founding of The United States. As we do every year, today’s show is dedicated to Americana, songs representative of The United States.
We open this first set with “Freedom” from Shenandoah, a show that takes place during the Civil War. We will follow that with “Ol’ Man River” from the 1951 film version of Show Boat, a show about performers on a Mississippi River boat And we will close this set with “Join the Circus” from Barnum, a show about showman PT Barnum. Here’s “Freedom” from Shenandoah.
We are playing eclectic songs about Americana in honor of America’s 250th birthday and you just heard “Freedom” from Shenandoah, “Ol’ Man River” from Show Boat, and “Join the Circus” from Barnum.

Then we will hear “Standing on the Corner” from The Most Happy Fella, a song that Frank Loesser originally wrote for Guys and Dolls. And we will end this set with Robert Preston singing “Seventy Six Trombones” from The Music Man, the quintessential musical showcasing Americana. Here’s “America” from West Side Story.
