July 7, 2026: Pathways to Healthcare
Pace Goodway, The Medicare Motivator, joined hosts Opollo, Jessie and Barbara to talk about USA healthcare and his role in helping people find the right plans for their needs. It wasn't until 1965 that the USA offered government sponsored programs, Medicare and Medicaid, to non-veterans aged 65 and older, those with specific disabilities, and those with limited income. Other individuals obtained health insurance from their employers or purchased healthcare as needed.
In 2010, the Affordable Care Act was enacted to increase access to affordable insurance, not care to improve healthcare delivery and control costs. However, it was more of a giveaway to insurance companies that a commitment to affordable healthcare for individuals. A network of licensed professionals were hired by companies or to assist persons find the right plans for their needs.
Pace is one of these individuals who gets out into the Savannah and surrounding communities to provide services to individuals and families, providing them with their various choices under Medicare to enroll in a plan that suits their needs. Pace meets with individuals and groups in order to assist them get the healthcare the need in a system is often difficult to navigate.
While the goal for so many of us is universal healthcare with a single point of entry supported by the tax base, we are not there yet and we rely on individuals like Pace to guide us to the best and most affordable plans.
