  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • You just heard Gwen Verdon singing “Whatever Lola Wants” from the film version of Damn Yankees which brings us to today’s theme. In the musical, she plays Lola, an assistant to the devil, who is charged with seducing the hero, Joe Hardy.

  • Our theme today is Songs of Seduction.

  • We are going to start our first set with the song “Big Spender” from the film version of Cy Coleman’s Sweet Charity. Then we will hear the song “Special” from Avenue Q. And we will end the set with Omar Sharif and Barbra Streisand singing “You Are Woman, I Am Man” from Funny Girl. Here is “Big Spender” from  Sweet Charity.

  • Opening the first set is Josh Gad & Nikki M. James singing the double entendre song, “Baptize Me” from The Book of Mormon. Then Jonathan Pryce and Madonna tell each other “I’d Be Surprisingly Good for You” from the film version of Evita. And speaking of Madonna, we will close out this set with “Sooner or Later” from her album I’m Breathless (Music from and Inspired By the Film Dick Tracy). Here’s “Baptize Me” from The Book of Mormon.

  • There will be one last seduction song right after this set, so I hope you stick around for it.

  • For this last set, we begin with the song that gave me the idea for this show, “Hernando’s Hideaway” from The Pajama Game. We will follow that with “Moonfall” from The Mystery of Edwin Drood. And we will finish with Yves Montand seducing Barbra Streisand telepathically with “Come Back to Me” from the film version of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. Remember, there is an additional song after this set. Here is “Hernando’s Hideaway” from The Pajama Game.
