Tonight on Contemporary Classics I a talking with composer David Lang and vocalist Theo Bleckmann who with the Attacca Quartet has brought to us a new album “note to a friend”. This album is a series of songs created from the letter written by short story author Ryunosuke Akutagawa to a fellow writer, announcing his intention to take his own life. The work is a stunning and haunting monodrama that addresses our eternal human fascinations with love, death, family, and the phantoms of our daily existence. This album was released in February on Cantaloupe Music.
