It’s September and you just heard the song “September” from the movie Trolls sung by Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, and, of course, Earth, Wind, and Fire.
And on Tuesday the seasons turn from Summer to Fall. Today’s theme is Autumn Colors.
Our first set consists of songs for the season. First we have Kurt Weill’s “September Song” originally from Knickerbocker Holiday sung by his wife, Lotte Lenya. Then Rosemary Clooney sings the jazz standard “Autumn In New York” originally from the musical Thumb’s Up!. We follow that with Peter Allen singing his song “Six Thirty Sunday Morning” about the aftermath of an autumn night out partying in New York during the 1970s. And we will close the set with Nat King Cole singing Johnny Mercer’s “Autumn Leaves”. Here’s Lotte Lenya singing her husband’s “September Song”.
