October 27, 2026: Latin American Democracies on the Alter of Death
Today on Voices of Resistance, we talked about the Latin American countries that have struggled over the years since becoming independent in the 1800s to resist USA imperialism. The USA quest for unipolar hegemony surged after WWII, especially in Latin America, with the Monroe Doctrine becoming of Organization of American States, not to protect these countries from European influence but to open the door to exploitation by the USA and its corporations.
The creation of the School of the Americas in 1946 and CIA operations division in 1947, as well as other organizations such as USAID and NED, gave the USA a foothold to foment rebellion and then install puppet presidents by any and all means, including assassination of sitting presidents. Many of these countries, such as Cuba, Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil, were able to replace these puppets with left-leaning socialists governments that nationalized resources and closed their doors to USA exploitation.
Sadly, in the 2020s, the tide has turned and many of these countries have been subject to USA-led regime change coups in many of these countries under the Donroe Doctrine. With once significant exception: despite USA interference, Brazil re-elected Lula's election against Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of Jair who previously beat and imprisoned Lula. Per the NYT 10/28/26, Flavio Bolsonaro, who lost Sunday’s presidential election, fled Brazil for the United States via Argentina after the police canceled his passport in relation to an investigation
