E04: Graphic Inclusivity

In this episode of the Parallax View, we discuss the role of a municipality's graphic package and whether the imagery and representation of the community are inclusive of all people.

Using the 2017 article by Samanth Subramanian titled 'How to sell a country' published in The Guardian as a pivot point, we discuss how the multiple iterations of representation and how that decision can affect the citizenry. We ask what should we be doing differently to brand Savannah and Chatham county as inclusive of BIPOC and LGBTQ citizens? and how do we incorporate a greater texture into the fabric?

Visual representations of the brand have ethos and connotation with a mental connection to the physical. It's a much larger piece of brand identity, which becomes a mindset to cultural division…Based on the Savannah branding and logo of the Historic District downtown square, therefore anyone who doesn't occupy that space of the logo has been excluded from the brand language. They could say, “that's not my city”.
