The Two Cultures
C. P. Snow
In a 1959 lecture, C. P. Snow stated that British universities paid too much attention to the arts and humanities and too little to science. It created an uproar. Most people conceded it was true, but preferred it left unspoken. In 1960, Snow published a book declaring that scientific decisions were based as much on committee politics as science itself, which created another uproar. How are we doing sixty years on? This week, while Leigh presents her own work at an academic conference, P. T. Bridgeport and Carol Andrews examine Snow’s works and their current relevance.
