Saved to Serve

Adapted from the resource Hearing from God Each Morning - by Joyce Meyer

As you begin your day, ask God to speak to you about what you can do to help others today and every day. We are saved by God so we can serve Him and others. God told Adam and Eve in the beginning of time to use all their resources in the service of God and man. A truly great man or woman is one who serves. Even a leader should be a servant-leader.

When Jesus' disciples asked Him which of them was the greatest, He replied that whoever wished to be great had to be a servant (see Matthew 20:26). Are you interested in hearing from God? If so, then ask Him to speak to you about who you can help and bless. If we only want to hear from God about what will help us, then He may not have much to say because He is not interested in helping us be selfish. If we truly care for others, we often find that amid our effort to serve them, our own problems are divinely solved by God without much effort on our part.

In God's Kingdom, the position of "servant" is the highest. Christ came to serve and not to be served (see Mark 10:45). Anyone can serve if they are willing to do so. Just listen to what people say they want and need and get busy serving. As you serve others your intimacy with Christ will increase because He is a Servant.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to be a blessing to others and give me a servant’s heart. Jesus’ name, amen.
