  • And welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman and each show I will be bringing you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, Commentary, and information in between.

  • Earth Day was this past Friday, April 22nd. I used to be an AP Environmental Science Teacher (shout out to any of my A.P.E.S. who might be listening, A.P.E.S. - AP Environmental Science) and I thought it might be cool to dedicate this week’s Show Biz theme to nature and the environment.

  • Musically, we are going to start our Earth Day theme tribute with the opening song from the movie version of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, “Hurry! It’s Lovely Up Here”. Barbra Streisand plays a woman who has a very green thumb. Then we will hear “Who Will Buy” from the Live 2009 London cast recording of Oliver. And we will follow that with “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” from The Fantasticks. We will end this set with “A Whole New World” from the movie version of Aladdin. Here’s Barbra Streisand with “Hurry! It’s Lovely Up Here” from On A Clear Day.

  • We just heard Barbra Streisand singing “Hurry! It’s Lovely Up Here” from On A Clear Day, “Who Will Buy” from Oliver, “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” from The Fantasticks, and “A Whole New World” from Aladdin on this Earth Day themed hour of “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

  • You’re listening to “well, That’s Show Biz!” on [station ID]. I’m your host, Jeremy Freedman, and our theme today is Earth Day.

  • Disney uses nature themes in many of their movies. Bambi and The Lion King come to mind right away.  But the relationship of people to nature might be best spelled out by Judy Kuhn in “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas. We will follow that with “Talk to the Animals” from Dr. Dolittle. I couldn’t find the original, Rex Harrison” version so you will hear a very 60s, Sammy Davis Jr. version. And we will finish this set with Juanita Hall singing “Bali Hai” from the original 1949 Broadway cast recording of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific. Here’s Judy Kuhn with “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas.

  • Our theme today is Earth Day and you just heard “Colors of the World” from Pocahontas, Sammy Davis Jr. singing “Talk to the Animals”, and “Bali Hai” from South Pacific.

  • After this set I will tell you how you can email me with questions, comments, and song and theme suggestions. Hair was a 60s anti-war musical which introduced us to the song, “Good Morning Starshine”. In Little Shop of Horrors, Ellen Greene sings of her longing for getting away from skid row and finding “Somewhere That’s Green”. And lastly, we will go “Under The Sea” with Samuel E. Wright and The Little Mermaid. Here’s the cast of Hair.

  • We just heard “Good Morning Starshine” from Hair, “Somewhere That’s Green” from Little Shop of Horrors, and “Under The Sea” from The Little Mermaid. • Our theme today is Earth Day. We are going to start our next set with Barbra Streisand singing the title song from On A Clear Day You Can See Forever. Following that, you will hear “Muddy Water” from the musical Big River - The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. And we will conclude this set with one of the great finales, “Make Our Garden Grow” from Candide. If you’ve never heard it before, there are very few moments much more thrilling to hear than when the orchestra drops out and the cast sings a capella. But first here’s Barbra Streisand.

  • We just heard Barbra Streisand singing the title song to On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, “Muddy Water” from Big River, and the Glorious “Make Our Garden Grow” from Candide, music by Leonard Bernstein. We are celebrating Earth Day here at “well, That’s Show Biz!”. And we are going to end our Earth Day with “Earth Song”, a song by Michael Jackson.  His video and performance for “Earth Song” is visually and vocally stunning showing us the harm that we are doing to our planet and yet it isn’t too late to reverse that harm.  Here is Michael Jackson with “Earth Song” followed by a colorful coda.

  • We closed out this edition of “well, That’s Show Biz!” with Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song” and Kermit The Frog’s “Rainbow Connection”. You can contact me, Jeremy Freedman, at wruushowbiz@gmail.com. You can ask me questions, give comments, and song or theme recommendations. That’s wruushowbiz@gmail.com. And this is [station ID].
