  • And welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman and with each show I will be bringing you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and Commentary.

  • Today’s theme is the theme of the day - Mother’s Day. We’re celebrating all sorts of mothers today from the noble to the nefarious. And we are going to start off with the song “Mamma Mia” from the Broadway show Mamma Mia! Which showcased the songs of ABBA.  Next we will hear Liz Callaway sing “The Story Goes On” from a little Broadway show called “Baby”. The show is about 3 different couples, one in their late teens/early 20s, another in their 30s, and the third in their 40s, all expecting a baby. We will follow that with Baby June and her sister Louise from the original cast of Gypsy singing “If Momma Was Married”. And we will conclude this set with “If He Walked into My Life” from Mame. Angela Lansbury plays Mame Dennis who adopts her late brother’s son and raises him as her own in an unconventional way only to be disappointed in him as a grown man.  But first, here’s “Mamma Mia”.

  • It’s Mother’s Day today and we are celebrating all mothers and mother figures here at “well, That’s Show Biz!”  In The King and I, Kelli O’Hara played Anna Leonowens, an English school teacher hired by the King of Siam to be the governess to his many children. She brings her own son with her to Siam. In the song, “I Whistle a Happy Tune”, she explains to her son what she does to keep her fears at bay. The musical Chicago features Matron “Mama” Morton who presides over the women’s cell block and explains her role in the song “When You’re Good to Mama”. And we’re going to close out this set with the glorious Audra McDonald as the Reverend Mother in the Sound of Music giving advice to Maria with “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”. Here’s Kelli O’Hara as Anna in The King and I.
