Rights and duties are a packaged pair, though one might not know that in our current climate. But from where should regulation come — the government or the individual? Virtue ethics is a moral theory that goes back millennia … yet appears to be all-but-forgotten today. Although “autonomy” translates to “self-governance,” it seems increasingly misapplied as selfishness. Is virtue dead? Or can we still develop and hone (and encourage our leaders to cultivate) more virtuous states of character?
