Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers with some anecdotes, information, and commentary to spice things up. Last April, we did a show dedicated to live performances by entertainers. Today is another show bringing you live performances by entertainers but also pop stars that performed on TV shows.
We are going to start with “Liza’s Medley” from Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli “Live” At the London Palladium. From there, we are going to hear Liza’s good friend, Chita Rivera, singing “This Could Be The Start Of Something (Big)” from her live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show from 1962. Then we are going to hear Judy Garland sing “Just In Time” from her CBS television show. Peter Allen who was married to Liza Minnelli was tasked with performing an “Irving Berlin Medley” on the Tony Awards which he then incorporated into his act. And finally, we are going to hear Barbra Streisand sing “People” from her 1987 Concert. Here’s Liza Minnelli.
You just heard Liza Minnelli with Liza’s Medley from “Live” At the London Palladium, Chira Rivera singing “This Could Be The Start Of Something (Big)” from The Ed Sullivan Show, Judy Garland with “Just In Time” from The Judy Garland Show, Peter Allen recreating his “Irving Berlin Medley” which he performed on the Tony Awards, and Barbra Streisand performing “People” as we look at Entertainers today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

We are looking at entertainers today on “well, That’s Show Biz!” and many of our entertainers pop up on TV shows. We are going to start off this set with David Cassidy and The Partridge Family singing “I Think I Love You”. David Cassidy and his step-mother Shirley Jones were the only ones from the show who actually sang on the show. On the lawyer show Ally McBeal, a then fairly unknown 20 year old Josh Groban stunned the television audience when he performed “You’re Still You” on the show. Here’s Davis Cassidy and The Partridge Family with “I Think I Love You”.

Continuing with entertainers who have appeared on television shows, next up, Roy Orbison appeared on an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard where he was hijacked by Boss Hogg and forced to sing “Oh, Pretty Woman” to pay for a speeding ticket. After that we are going to hear Lesley Gore sing “California Nights” which she sang as Pussycat, Catwoman’s protege on the Batman television series. Blondie’s lead singer, Deborah Harry, was featured during a season of the show Wiseguy where she sang her song “Brite Side”. And finally, who can forget Davy Jones showing up at Marsha Brady’s prom on the Brady Bunch to sing “Girl”. Here’s Roy Orbison with “Oh, Pretty Woman”.
