  • This is, of course, the love theme from the motion picture, “Halloween” and Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme and today, we are celebrating Halloween by playing songs from scary themed plays and movies.

  • We are going to start off with the opening number from movie version of The Rocky Horror Show, “Science Fiction / Double Feature” then transition to “Say My Name” from the broadway musical production of Beetlejuice. The musical American Psycho premiered in London and starred Dr. Who’s Matt Smith in the role made famous by Christian Bale in the movie. In the song, “Killing Time”, Matt Smith is the second performer you hear, the one with the lower ranged voice. And finally, we will hear the great Levi Stubbs as the voice of Audrey II singing “Feed Me” from the movie version of Little Shop of Horrors. Here’s Richard O’Brien and “Science Fiction / Double Feature” from Rocky Horror.

  • We are celebrating Halloween today on “well, That’s Show Biz!” and you just heard “Science Fiction / Double Feature” from The Rocky Horror Show, “Say My Name” from Beetlejuice, “Killing Time” from American Psycho, and “Feed Me” from Little Shop of Horrors.

  • Continuing with our Halloween theme, we have Pat Carroll as Ursula the Sea Witch singing “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. In Stephen King’s non-fiction book, Danse Macabre, King talks about the horrors explicit in the original stories that our fairy tales are based on. Stephen Sondheim brings some of this horror into his work in Into The Woods and we are going to feature this idea with the wolf singing to and about Little Red Riding Hood in the song “Hello, Little Girl”. And finally in this set, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick serenade us with “Over At the Frankenstein Place” from Rocky Horror. Here’s “Poor Unfortunate Souls”.

  • We are going to start off our next set with “The Dream” from Fiddler On The Roof. Zero Mostel, as Tevye, has to convince his wife Golde that their daughter should marry the poor tailor, Motel Kamzoyel, instead of the rich butcher, Lazar Wolfe. He fakes a nightmare where he is visited by the ghosts of Golde’s dead grandmother as well as Lazar Wolfe’s departed first wife, Frumma Sarah. We are going to follow that with Nathan Lane, Bebe Neuwith, and the company of The Addams Family musical singing “When You’re an Addams”. In the musical, Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Henry Jekyll sings “This IsThe Moment” as he prepares to take the drug that will transform him into Mr. Hyde. Here’s Zero Mostel as Tevye with “The Dream”.
