Tonight on Four Centuries of Great Music I am finishing up the series of the Symphony thru the Centuries with music from Russia and the United States from the 1940s, 1970s and the 1990s.

Lets begin with Dmitri Shostakovich’s last symphony, his Symphony No. 15 in A major, Op. 141 composed in 1970-71 to celebrate his own 65th birthday and it was premiered in 1972. It is in 4 movements Allegretto; Adagio-Largo, Adagio-Lento; Allegretto and Adagio-Allegretto-Adagio-Allegretto
