  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • This is the second show of Love Songs in anticipation of Valentine’s Day. There may be more love songs in shows than any other type of song especially since there are different types of love songs. We are going to bring you many different types of Love Songs today.

  • We are going to start off with the title song to the musical “She Loves Me” as the male lead who has fallen in love with his mysterious pen pal finds out that his pen pal is the woman he hates. Next, “People Will Say We’re in Love”, a non-love Love Song from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! We follow that with Don Quixote, from Man of La Mancha, singing of his “Dulcinea”, a kitchen slut who he believes to be a virtuous woman. At the end of the song, the muleteers, who have used her for sex, mock the very idea that she could be virtuous. And finally, Samuel E. Wright sings “Kiss the Girl” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.  Here is “She Loves Me”.

  • You just heard the title song to “She Loves Me”, “People Will Say We’re in Love” from Oklahoma!, “Dulcinea” from Man of La Mancha, and “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid as we play Love Songs for Valentine’s Day on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.

  • Love Songs for Valentine’s Day today on “well, That’s Show Biz!” and we are going to start set 2 with a live recording of “Almost Like Being in Love” from Lerner and Loewe’s Brigadoon. Then Isabel Bigley and Robert Alda declare that “(they’ve) Never Been In Love Before” from Guys and Dolls. We will follow that with a song that deals with unconditional love, “As Long As He Needs Me” from Oliver!. And finally in this set, did you know that there was a sequel to Andrew Lloyd Weber’s The Phantom of the Opera? It was called Love Never Dies and was based on a 1999 novel called The Phantom of Manhattan.  The Phantom lures Christine to perform at a theater in Brooklyn.  The show opened in London but got mostly negative reviews and its Broadway opening was canceled. The show did produce this stunning love song that the Phantom sings called “Till I Hear You Sing”. This version is sung by Ethan Freeman who just happens to be my cousin. But first here’s “Almost like Being in Love” from Brigadoon.
