  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and this is the show that brings you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • One year ago, on the first Sunday in April, I opened the first ever edition of “well, That’s Show Biz!” with the theme of opening numbers. Six months later, at the half-way mark of my first year, the theme of the show was Act One closers. For my one year anniversary, my nephew suggested Finales. At first I was reluctant as I didn’t want people to think that this was my last show.  But I thought Finales might very well be appropriate given that history with the caveat that this is NOT my last show.

  • We are going to start our show of Finales with a trio of finales from Jerry Herman’s three biggest shows. Jerry Herman was known for his extremely hummable tunes that he would reprise at the end of his shows. Here are the “Finales” to Jerry Herman’s Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and La Cage Aux Folles.

  • You are listening to “well, That’s Show Biz!” on WRUU, 107.5 FM in Savannah and our theme today is Finales. We are now going to hear the finales of two shows with similar themes. The shows are Candide and Pippin and both have the theme of the main character searching for his place in the world. In Pippin, the players of the acting troupe attempt to coerce Pippin to set himself on fire and go out in a blaze of glory. But in both stories, Candide and Pippin decide that the simple joys of life are for the best.  Here’s “Make Our Garden Grow” from Candide, and the “Finale” of Pippin.

  • You are listening to “well, That’s Show Biz!” on [station ID]. One year ago, on the first Sunday in April, we began this show with the theme of Opening Numbers. Half-way through my first year, the theme was Act 1 Closers. Now on the one-year anniversary, our theme is Finales. There have been many great finales in musical theater and a one hour show is not enough time to feature even close to all of the best.  So here is just a sampling. We are going to open the third set with the finale to Oklahoma! This is from the 2019 Broadway revival. Next we have the “Finale” to one of my favorite shows, Newsies. Then we are going to go to the Original Broadway cast of Matilda with the reprises of “When I Grow Up / Naughty”. Then we will go to the reprise of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel. And finally, no pun intended, we will here “Raise You Up / Just Be” from Kinky Boots.  Here’s “Oklahoma”.

  • For our last set, we are going to hear the finale of Man Of La Mancha which is my favorite show. There is a recording of a production of the entire show, dialog and all, but I cannot play that version due to time. Here is the finale of Man Of La Mancha.

  • You just heard the finale of Man Of La Mancha as we conclude Finales on the 1-year anniversary of “well, That’s Show Biz!”. If you would like to suggest theme and song suggestions for a future show, you can send them to me, Jeremy Freedman, at wruushowbiz@gmail.com.
