“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Before we get to today’s theme, I recently watched the movie version of The Prom on Netflix. The Prom tells the story of a group of narcissistic Broadway actors who travel to a small Homophobic Indiana town to help a girl who wants to take her girlfriend to their Prom. The movie was okay but the songs are excellent and the story is very rewarding. I was a little disappointed to see James Corden and Meryl Streep starring in another musical but by the end I felt that they redeemed themselves in my eyes. James Corden especially is very endearing. And the girl who simply wants to take her girlfriend to the prom is very good and believable. The show is full of heart with great songs. I recommend The Prom on Netflix.

  • Now, on to today’s show. Summers are for children. And when my sister-in-law suggested a show with the theme of children, I thought that the middle of summer would be the perfect time. These are songs from shows that featured children.

  • We are going to open with the orphans from Annie singing “It’s the Hard-Knock Life”. From there, we will go to “Dainty June and Her Farmboys” from the movie version of Gypsy. Then we are going to hear “Boy for Sale” and “Where Is Love?” from the original Broadway production of Oliver!. And we are going to close out the first set with “Why Am I Me?” from Shenandoah. Here’s the orphans with “It’s the Hard-Knock Life” from Annie.
