  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Last year for my birthday week, I played the songs from shows that I sang when I performed in them. This year, I am going to play some songs that I sang in other venues like coffee houses, talent shows, and fundraisers. For many years I sang with my musical partner, Danny Adlerman, back in New Jersey. He played guitar and harmonized with my lead vocals. For fun, we recorded four of our covers at The House of Vibes in Highland Park, NJ. I am going to play these songs throughout today’s show.

  • We are going to open with the title song to Guys and Dolls that I sang with one of my best friends, Walter, at a talent show during our Sophomore year at Rutgers University. I sang the Stubby Kaye part which, if you don’t know, is the higher range part. Then we are going to hear Bernadette Peters sing “Time Heals Everything” from Mack & Mable. And finally we will hear “Wunderbar” from Kiss Me Kate. Here’s “Guys and Dolls”.

  • You just heard the title song from Guys and Dolls, “Time Heals Everything” from Mack & Mable, and “Wunderbar” from Kiss Me Kate.

  • With my musical Partner, we formed the duo Danny and Jeremy. You are going to hear one of my favorite songs which was written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin and made famous by The Drifters. Here’s “Up On The Roof”

  • This is my birthday week and we are listening to songs that I sang in various venues such as coffee houses and fundraisers. We are going to start off set 2 with “Lida Rose / Will I Ever Tell You?” from The Music Man. I think I sang the bass part. Then we will hear “Johanna” from Sweeney Todd. And we are going to conclude with Judy Garland’s version of “Just In Time” originally from Bells Are Ringing. Judy Garland dramatically changes keys the second time through the song. I tried to copy this while adding an additional key change.  Here’s “Lida Rose”.

  • You just heard “Lida Rose” from The Music Man, “Johanna” from Sweeney Todd, and “Just In Time” all songs that I have sung at some point in my life.

  • The song “Love Hurts” was made famous by the hard rock band Nazareth but it was probably the first song that my musical partner, Danny, harmonized with me and when we realized we sounded good together. Here is Danny’s and my cover of “Love Hurts”.

  • <play from phone “Love Hurts”>

  • You just heard Danny and Jeremy’s cover of “Love Hurts” as we look at some of the songs I have sung in the past to celebrate my birthday week.

  • This is my birthday week and I am playing songs that I have sung in various venues other than in a play.  Singer/Songwriter Peter Allen was my idol. His music spoke to me and his songs fit my style very well. Set 3 will feature some of his songs that I have sung. First up is the live version of his song “Everything Old Is New Again”. This version was featured as a dance number in Bob Fosse’s semi-autobiographical movie All That Jazz. Then we will hear Hugh Jackman sing “Once Before I Go”  from the Peter Allen biographical musical The Boy From Oz. And we will conclude with Peter Allen’s song about his relationship to his “Audience”. Here’s “Everything Old Is New Again”.

  • You just heard three songs by Peter Allen that I have also sung, “Everything Old Is New Again”, “Once Before I Go’, and “Audience”.

  • Danny Adlerman and I sang several songs by the group Blondie and we regularly performed this acoustic version of their song “Mother” the lead single off of their 2010 album Panic of Girls.  Here’s “Mother”.

  • <play from phone “Mother”>

  • You just heard my cover of Blondie’s 2010 song “Mother” as we listen to some of the songs that I have sung to celebrate my birthday week.

  • And now to complete my birthday week show of songs that I have performed outside of a play we are going to start with Anthony Newley singing “What Kind of Fool Am I?” from Stop The World - I Want To Get Off. Then we are going to hear Richard Kiley sing the title song from The Little Prince. And we will close out with the song that Danny and I would close our shows - our cover of Paul Anka’s “Diana”.  Here’s “What Kind of Fool Am I?”
