“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

11-19-2023

  • You are listening to [station ID]

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • Before we get to this week’s theme, I would like to talk about an autobiography that I read recently. Making It So, Patrick Stewart’s memoir was a joyous read from start to finish. First of all, when you read it, you hear Patrick Stewart’s magnificent voice in your head as if he is telling you his life story directly. You would not believe that he came from the most humblest of origins in Northern England. His anecdotes are humorous and you root for him through each stage of his theatrical training. The only thing missing is any anecdote fabout the movie Excalibur. Why this omission? I don’t know. I would love to ask him personally. I highly recommend Patrick Stewart’s Making It So.

  • Thanksgiving is this Thursday so today’s theme is about Thanks and gratitude. As you listen to these songs, think about all the different things that make you grateful.

  • We are going to open with “All Good Gifts” from the 2011 revival of Godspell. Then we are going to hear “From This Day On” from the 1995 London Studio Cast Recording of Brigadoon. For full disclosure purposes, on this recording, the role of Tommy is sung by my cousin, Ethan Freeman. And we will close our this set with Robert Morse and the original Broadway cast of How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying singing about the “Brotherhood of Man”. Here’s “All Good Gifts” from Godspell.

We are going to open this set with “When the Children Are Asleep” from Carousel. Then we are going to hear “I Like Everybody” from The Most Happy Fella. Next, Julie Andrews sings about “Something Good” from The Sound of Music. And we are going to conclude this set with a “Hymn for a Sunday Evening” from the film version of Bye Bye Birdie. Here’s “When the Children Are Asleep” from Carousel.

Opening our third set we have a song that is usually heard at Christmas time but can relate to Thanksgiving. From the musical Scrooge we have the song “Thank You Very Much”. Then we will hear two songs from Jerry Herman’s The Grand Tour. First, the beautiful “I Belong Here” and then “I’ll Be Here Tomorrow”. Here’s “Thank You Very Much”.
