Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.
<Play “Something’s Coming”>
You just heard a different version of “Something’s Coming” originally from West Side Story, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Stephen Sondheim passed away exactly two years ago today. There is a reason that there are so many revues and celebrations of his music and that entertainers are eager to sing his songs. They are full of emotion and angst, humor and joy, sorrow and sadness. Today’s show is a celebration of all that, focusing on some of these tributes, and we are also going to hear from the man himself.
We are going to start this set with Michael Jeter singing “Everybody Ought To Have A Maid” originally from A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. Then Barbra Streisand will sing “Not While I’m Around” originally from Sweeney Todd. And we will conclude with a version of “Back In Business” originally from the movie Dick Tracy. Here’s Michael Jeter with “Everybody Ought To Have A Maid”.

We are going to start this next set with the Cassidy brothers, David, Patrick, and Shaun singing “You Could Drive A Person Crazy” originally from Company. Then we are going to hear Sondheim talk about writing a torch song followed by Vanessa Williams and Barbara Cook singing a medley of two of his best “Losing My Mind” from Follies and “Not a Day Goes By” from Merrily We Roll Along. And we close the set with Julie Andrews singing “Getting Married Today” originally from Company. Here are the Cassidy brothers, “You Can Drive A Person Crazy”.
