Savannah Local Elections
On this episode of Voices of Reason, we continued the conversation regarding the upcoming Savannah local elections with former County Commissioner and Savannah mayoral candidate John McMasters. John explained how the election of progressive candidates in 2019 resulted in rules changes that hampered the ability of these progressives to carry out many of their campaign promises. He discussed two promises that were enacted--impact fees on new construction and term limits--but much remains to be done. He asked why Savannah has two times the poverty rate of the country after twenty years of unparalled growth, due primarily to low wages in two growth areas--tourism and SCAD. Also discussed was the issue of unaffordable housing that is driving many out of the city and further from transportation, jobs, and services.
