War: What is it Good For?

With guests Frank Bessinger, a medic during the Vietnam War, and Vicki Weeks, local author of Code of Honor, an historical fictional account of the leadup to the second Iraq War, we began with a discussion of the reasons for war.  We then made reasonable observations of its manifestation over the past 229 of its 247 years of USA history (92% of the time), the death and destruction of war to people and planet, and the lifelong trauma and moral injury suffered by combat soldiers and others on the ground.  And finally, we began a conversation of reasonable solutions to war.  These included ending its enormous profitability to military and munition contractors, holding these contractors accountable for the death and destruction they inflict on people and planet, and cutting direct ties between the military industrial complex and the media.  But we have only just begun that conversation.  Please join in the discussion and get updates on our Facebook Page, https://www.facebook.com/VoRSav.

In terms of accountability, The Merchants of Death War Crimes Tribunal begins Sunday, November 12 at 8 pm EST via this zoom link:  https://merchantsofdeath.org/.   Registration is required.  This mock tribunal is modeled after the Senate Special Committee on Investigation of the Munitions Industry (Nye Committee).  This committee investigated the financial and banking interests and profits of the industrial and commercial firms that supplied munitions to the USA and its allies that underlay the USA involvement in WWI.

And please join Voices of Reason every Tuesday at 12:05 pm and That Old Savannah Magic every Wednesday at 4 pm on air at 107.5 or at wruu.org.  Stay tuned.
