Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.
Today’s show is about opposites, Hello & Goodbye, Songs of Welcome and Songs of Farewell.
Our first set contains the Hellos and Welcomes. We are going to open with “Hello!”, the opening song from the hilarious Book Of Mormon. Next, the original Anna Leonowens from The King & I, Gertrude Lawrence, welcomes her students with the song “Getting to Know You”. Then the wolf greets Red Riding Hood with “Hello, Little Girl” from Into The Woods. And we will finish with Ben Vereen and the original cast of Pippin greeting the audience with “Magic To Do”. Here’s “Hello!” from The Book of Mormon.

We are going to open with Barbra Streisand singing “So Long Dearie” from the film version of Hello, Dolly!. Next we will hear the farewell song, “Grand Knowing You” from the 2016 revival of She Loves Me. Then, we will hear “Goodbye, Old Girl” from Damn Yankees, as character Joe Boyd gets transformed into baseball player Joe Hardy after he makes a deal with the devil. And we close the set with “Hard to Say Goodbye, My Love” from Dreamgirls. Here’s “So Long Dearie” from Hello, Dolly!.
