Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and each week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.
The Vernal Equinox this year is on Tuesday, March 19th which means that that is the first day of Spring this year. We are going to celebrate the Vernal Equinox today with songs about Spring.
We are going to open with the song “Winter’s on the Wing” from The Secret Garden. Next the Broadway cast of Groundhog Day promises that “There Will Be Sun”. Then we will hear “Younger Than Springtime” from the film version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. And since the sun is warming the world and March winds are blowing, we will close out this set with the cast of the movie Mary Poppins insisting “Let’s Go Fly a Kite”. Here’s “Winter’s on the Wing” from The Secret Garden.

And we’ll conclude this set with Jonathan Groff and the cast of 2015’s New York City Center’s Encores presentation of A New Brain singing “I Feel so Much Spring”. Tuesday is the first day of Spring this year so today we are celebrating all things Spring.
On his final album, Singer/Songwriter Peter Allen recorded a terrific song, “See You In the Springtime”, which will open our third set. Next, baseball season starts in the Spring, so we are going to hear “Six Months Out of Every Year” from Damn Yankees. Then, Andrea McArdle will regale us with “It Might As Well Be Spring” from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s State Fair. And finally, we will hear the cast of the original 1967 film version of Mel Brooks' The Producers singing the satirical “Springtime For Hitler”. Here’s Peter Allen with “See You In the Springtime”.
