Tonight on Contemporary Classics I am talking with Lebanese, Brooklyn NY based violinist and composer Layale Chaker about her new album “Vigil” which is a collaboration with the new-music string quartet ETHEL. This album will be released on In a Circle Records on this coming Friday May 17th. We will also be talking about the world premiere of Layale’s debut full-length chamber opera “Ruinous Gods” which will be at the Spoleto USA Festival in Charleston SC a week from Friday, May 24th with subsequent performances on May 27th, 29th and June 1st. Loosely based on the Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone, Ruinous Gods explores the psychological toll experienced by displaced refugee children.
