May 14, 2024 Occupied Palestine in the State of Israel

This is the 76th anniversary of the independence of the state if Israel and the nakba, the catastrophe, when 750,000 Palestinians were encouraged to leave their land and never given the right to return.  On this episode of Voices of Reason, we are joined by two Palestinian American women living in Savannah, Laila Abdullah and a Savannah university student choosing to remain anonymous, to discuss this second catastrophe unfolding before our eyes and on social media posts--a genocide of Palestinians living in Gaza, immanent famine for those still alive, and settler attacks on Palestinians living in the West Bank--since the October 7 Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation.

Laila is one of the co-founders of Savannah4Palestine.  The group has been conducting a number of community events to inform and organize people to support the Boycott, Divest and Sanction of Israel products and military contractors in the USA, a movement that helped end the apartheid government in South Africa.

I have found the following individuals/podcasts to be the most informative on this topic, including:

Chris Hedges; The Critical Hour with Wilmer Leon and Garland Nixon; Sheerpost; Glenn Greenwald/System Update; The Duran; AntiWar.com with Dave DeCamp; Consortium News; Caitlin Johnstone; The Grayzone; Useful Idiots; Matt Taibbi; Jimmy Dore Show.

Here are three links I have found rich in history and the current situation in Palestine:

Chris Hedges:  Israel's Willing Executioners; Sheerpost:  https://sheerpost.com/2024/05/13/chris-hedges-israels-willing-executioners/

A. Bustos:  Israel's Brutality Draws on British Rule:  https://consortium,news.com2024/05/08/isaels-brrutality-draws-on-british-rule/; Consortium News

Please join us next week on Voices of Reason when our guest will be an EMT who has just returned from providing medial care in Gaza.
