“Well, That’s Show Biz!”

08-04-2024

  • You are listening to [Station ID].

  • Welcome to “well, That’s Show Biz!”. I am your host, Jeremy Freedman, and every week I bring you music from Broadway, Movies, and Entertainers along with some anecdotes, information, and commentary all based on a theme.

  • <Play “Friendship”>

  • Today, August 4th, is Friendship Day and you just heard the song “Friendship” originally from Cole Porter’s DuBarry Was a Lady combined with the song “Friends To The End” originally from Tom and Jerry: The Movie. The artists were Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner. Just so you know, the song “Friendship” was added to the score of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes in 1962.

  • And since today is National friendship Day, all of our songs today deal with Friendships.

  • We are going to open our first set with Robin Williams singing “Friend Like Me” from the Alladin soundtrack. Then we are going to hear “I Really Like Him” from Man Of La Mancha. And we will conclude the set with “I’d Do Anything” from the original Broadway cast of Oliver!. Here’s “Friend Like Me” from Aladdin.

  • Today’s theme is Friendship for National Friendship Day and we are going to open our second set with Angela Lansbuty and Bea Arthur singing “Bosom Buddies” from Jerry Herman’s Mame. Next, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick sing “‘Til Him” from Mel Brooks’ The Producers. Then the cast of Les Miserables sings “Drink With Me” on the eve of revolution. And we will conclude this set with a terrific song from Dear Evan Hansen. In the song “Sincerely Me”, Evan and a friend write fake emails to convince people that Evan was friends with recently deceased Connor Murphy. This is from the film version. Here’s “Bosom Buddies” from Mame.

  • You just heard “Bosom Buddies” from Mame, “‘Til Him” from The Producers, “Drink With Me” from Les Miserables, and “Sincerely Me” from the film version of Dear Evan Hansen as we celebrate Friendship Day today on “well, That’s Show Biz!”.
